Rivalry Weekend: Hawks Edge Dust Devils in Twin Bill Thriller
Treasure Valley meets Magic Valley — two wins, one walk-off vibe, and bleachers that never sat down.
They call it a rivalry weekend because “friendly series” doesn’t cover the noise. The Boise River Hawks rolled south to face the Twin Falls Dust Devils, and for two nights the Magic Valley felt like the center of Idaho youth baseball.
Game one belonged to the arms. Jake Morales danced on the outer half for the Hawks, changeup working overtime, while Damon Cruz answered with sinker after sinker for Twin Falls. Eli Thompson framed the low stuff; Callie Brooks threw through a runner at second that silenced a Hawks rally. It stayed 2–1 until Riley Park squared one into the gap in the sixth and Avery Quinn punched an RBI single through the left side. Cam Delgado and Sam Ortega bridged the late innings. Final: Hawks 3, Dust Devils 1.
Game two was pure dust and drama. Nova Ellis set the table with a leadoff double. Emilio Santos turned two. Sierra Holt and Hank Lowell put Twin Falls ahead by three before the fifth. Then the Hawks’ middle infield woke up — Sofia Reyes slap-hit a spark, Maya Chen beat out a chopper, Noah Bridger stole second standing up. Ty Knox laced a two-run single. In the seventh, Marcus Hale scored from first on a wild pitch scramble that the Dust Devils will replay all winter. Hawks 6, Dust Devils 5.
Diamond Peak’s takeaway isn’t complicated. These clubs match up too well to schedule lightly. Cruz and Morales will headline highlight reels. Chen and Santos will own the dirt. And if you weren’t in the bleachers for that seventh-inning scramble, you missed the kind of summer baseball Idaho invents on purpose.
